NEW ECO GALLERY OPENS AT
MARINE
MUSEUM
Friday
October 16th at 10 am
- a revitalized and updated Eco Gallery will be officially opened at
the Marine Museum in Kingston, thanks to the support of the Ministry of the
Environment. The Honorable John Gerretsen, Minister of the Environment, and
MPP Kingston and The Islands will join Museum Director Ann Blake to launch
the exhibit.
The
new exhibit which focuses on environmental issues impacting the Great Lakes
will feature a computer based ‘Information Station’ that presents
information on; what makes the Great Lakes special, how and why they are
threatened, and what is being done to protect them.
An
‘eco trail’ leads visitors through the Museum, expanding on the
environmental theme: explaining how the underwater environment is threatened
in the Shipwreck Gallery. In addition, three programming units for Grade 7/8
students have been developed in conjunction with the development of the
exhibit.
“The
intent is to provide the information the students need to become
environmental stewards, so that they can carry the message that the Great
Lakes need our help into the community,”
said Museum Director Ann Blake.
“I
want to congratulate all those involved who helped make this project a
success, this new exhibit will help raise awareness of the importance of
taking care of our Great Lakes,”
said MPP John Gerretsen.
The
Museum’s hours will be extended this Fall – open Mondays to Fridays until
the end of November, to permit the public to view the new exhibit. As
always, schools and tour groups can visit year round by calling for an
appointment.
